Transition to Work
In cooperation with local school districts, we offer comprehensive career services for young adults between the ages of 15-21 in our TRANSITION TO WORK program. Students are offered career exploration on a part or full time basis in our Westbury site.

As per New York State guidelines regarding the “No Child Left Behind Law” we offer a Level II/ Level III comprehensive vocational assessment to determine vocational interests and aptitudes and determine realistic vocational planning for the student participating in a special education high school curriculum.

Vocational training in this program include basic clerical, stock and inventory, computer keyboarding, retail, food service, building maintenance and graphics.

In addition to vocational training, our program offers the support required for our young adults to successfully learn about the world of work. We provide weekly support groups in social skills, life skills, vocational academic skills and job readiness skills. Each student is offered a program specific to their needs. We also offer assistance with high school equivalency testing preparation. We offer a variety of counseling, therapeutic and vocational placement services.

In order for our students to reach maturity and independence in the world of work, we offer mentorship programs and community internships. We have linked with a nationally recognized Junior Achievement program in order to present our students with the opportunity to meet with people working in various industries, learn more about a variety of vocational settings and understand the concept of employer expectations.

In order to prepare our students for the world of work, we link with local employers/businesses to provide community internship sites for our students. Students participating in community internships work alongside a job coach or a facility supervisor to develop appropriate work skills and behaviors.

Once a student ages out of the school district, our transition to work coordinator will work alongside the family and school district to develop a transitional plan with each individual student.

In addition to our regular 10 month school program, we offer a SUMMER PROGRAM which includes BASIC TRAVEL TRAINING and INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS. This is geared for the student who has a 12 month Individualized Educational Plan approved by the local school district.
